Over 8,000 dedicated aging services professionals came together in Philadelphia for the 2018 LeadingAge Annual Meeting and Expo. This premier event in senior living provided a platform for attendees to exchange ideas, explore new strategies and master the latest best practices. The Meyer Senior Living Studio was on full display throughout the 3-plus day conference. Not only as an exhibitor on the expo floor, but curating and participating in an informative and dynamic educational session entitled, “Supporting Health and Wellbeing in the Built Environment”.

The session provided an overview of sustainable design trends that provide the most value, the potential for the WELL Building Standard and the integration into the overall healthcare continuum. With not enough focus on sustainability and wellness in senior living design, the presentation gave attendees an in-depth perspective on the principles, practices and applications for senior living communities. The session featured three sub-topics: (1) sustainable and technology trends and how they can influence senior living design; (2) how the WELL Building Standard enables better health and wellness outcomes; and (3) review innovative trends in health and wellness design. In addition, the dynamic panel provided an in-depth overview of the WELL Building Standard and how it benefits senior living owners and operators that want to support and advance older human health and wellness into their facilities. As the premier standard for buildings, interior spaces and communities, the WELL Building standard is a performance based system for measuring, certifying and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health and well-being. The first protocol of its kind, the WELL Building Standard identifies conditions that, when holistically integrated into building interiors, enhance occupant well-being. As experts in senior living design, project management, and wellness implementation, the panelists engaged with attendees in a lively discussion through case studies, visuals and thought-provoking questions.
